Sporeshelf: The Static-ing

Sporeshelf: The Static-ing

Two updates in two days? What madness is this?

Perfectly productive madness, as completing grad school and regaining free time has imbued me with the power to finish what I’ve started. Once I’ve discovered the secret to non-caffeinated energy, I’ll be damn near unstoppable.

One of my tasks was turning Sporeshelf into a static website. I’m tried of using WordPress for everything I make, and static sites are easier to maintain. They may take longer to modify, but I’m comfortable digging into the guts of a HTML/CSS stack. Plus, if I ever need to move hosts, migrating is as easy as dragging and dropping files.

“But what about search functionality? What about RSS feeds? Doesn’t WordPress do all that automatically?”

It does, but again, I don’t need a dynamic setup when there’s Pagefind and the ability to create my own RSS feeds through other means. I just have to remember to update both when I add something new. That shouldn’t be too difficult once it becomes a habit. Overall, I’m very happy with the outcome, even if it doesn’t produce completely cruft-free URLs (yet).

So check out the new-ish Sporeshelf, why don’t you?
